nowiki tag

Thanks for correcting the link to subversion using the nowiki tag. I thought there must be some way to do it, but I guess I was too lazy to look properly.  ;) Matthewg42 05:43, 17 September 2006 (PDT)

Not at all. I didn't look properly either, I just saw JomeSysop use it in Svn checkout :-). --Mayday 10:49, 17 September 2006 (PDT)

Good suggestions about not concatenating strings to help translators. I am probably guilty of that in the past, but I will try to keep it in mind for the future. Matthewg42 14:35, 3 June 2008 (PDT)

Good to hear that. ;-) Most of the concatenations have been removed by now, I think. (I'm talking about translatable strings here. Concatenating non-translatable strings is fine.)
One thing to watch out for is the UI: “concatenating” widgets can cause problems for the translators, too. A silly example: “Display {vertically|horizontally} on the {left|right}”. Here we have two labels and two option menus with a total of six translatable strings – and they form a sentence. Hard/impossible to translate into conjugating languages (like Hungarian). I've actually seen things like this in other applications. --Mayday 01:41, 5 June 2008 (PDT)
