Stellarium is a free open source cross-platform planetarium for your computer. It shows a realistic sky in 3D, just like what you see with the naked eye, binoculars or a telescope.

Supported Platform Details

The Stellarium team strives to provide support for the platforms most frequently used by Stellarium users. We have designed our internal testing procedure to divide platforms into three test categories (Tier 1 and Tier 2) in order to prioritize internal testing and development resources so that the most frequently used platforms are subjected to our most rigorous testing processes.

Stellarium is supported on a variety of 32-bit and 64-bit platforms, and can usually be built on each platform with GCC or Clang compiler. Although Stellarium may be built on a range of platform-compiler combinations, only a subset of these are actively supported by Stellarium team.

Tier 1 Platforms

All Tier 1 platforms having our high priority level for development and internal testing. Errors or bugs discovered in these platforms are prioritized for correction by the development team. Significant errors discovered in Tier 1 platforms can impact release dates.

Platform Architecture Operating systems
Linux 32-bit Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora
Linux 64-bit Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora
Windows 32-bit Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7

Tier 2 Platforms

Tier 2 platforms having normal priority level for development and having episodic internal testing. However, Stellarium users should note that errors may be present in released product versions for Tier 2 platforms and, subject to resource availability, known errors in Tier 2 platforms may or may not be corrected prior to new version releases.

Platform Architecture Operating systems
BSD 32-bit FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD
BSD 64-bit FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD
Windows 64-bit Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7
Mac OS X 32-bit Mac OS X 10.5, Mac OS X 10.6
Mac OS X 64-bit Mac OS X 10.6, Mac OS X 10.7, Mac OS X 10.8

Tier 3 Platforms (Not Supported by Stellarium team)

Stellarium users should note, however, that there may be various open source projects, community users who are able to provide assistance with platforms not supported by Stellarium team.
